Ashmore Dentistry is proud to offer Sleep Dentistry!

From the moment you walk into our beautiful 18th century Victorian building, you will be greeted with a friendly smile from our staff and a calm and warm feeling of home. Our lovely dentists are all specifically trained at providing personalised, pain-free treatment and are well known for their friendly personalities.

We use a blend of the highest quality materials, state of the art technology and a human connection to make coming to the dentist as enjoyable as possible.

However, we know for some, particularly those who have previously had a bad experience or developed dental anxiety or phobia, that the thought of dental treatment can be overwhelming and result in delaying care, pain, and neglecting their oral health.

Having been serving the Ballarat community at our practice for more than 60 years, we know very well that it is normally the most lovely and nicest individuals who find themselves in this situation. Through no fault of their own, many live with chipped, broken, painful or unsightly teeth.

Thankfully, we have a solution! The team at Ashmore Dentistry is proud to offer Sleep Dentistry to the lovely community of Ballarat and surrounds!

What is sleep dentistry?

As the name implies, sleep dentistry allows you to have all your dental treatment done while asleep. After having an in-depth consultation with you and collecting all the important diagnostic information, our highly experienced dentist, Dr Anna Taylor, will develop a treatment plan together with you. In this consultation, Dr Anna will go through what to expect on the day, after care, as well as schedule any follow up reviews that you may need.

After this, we arrange an appointment for our General Anaesthetic sessions where a highly experienced specialist anaesthetist, specialised nurses and Dr Anna will complete all of your dental treatment in purpose built, state of the art treatment rooms.

As the treatment is done while you are under General Anaesthetic, we guarantee that you won’t have to hear the sound of the drill, feel any pain or have no nasty gag reflex.

Am I suitable?

As with any medical procedure, we never make any clinical decisions lightly. Suitability will be discussed with you during your consultation with Dr Anna as well as with our team of specialist anaesthetists.

In saying that, a good place to start when deciding if sleep dentistry is for you is if you:

  • Have dental fear or phobia that is making you put off dental care
  • Have a severe gag reflex
  • Have highly sensitive teeth that don’t numb up
  • Complex treatment such as wisdom teeth extractions or implants
  • Young children

Is sleep dentistry safe?

We never take for granted the faith and trust that our patients put in our practice. Your safety is our number one priority. And that is why we never take any shortcuts when it comes to delivering care.

We have teamed up with highly experienced specialist anaesthetists who ONLY do general anaesthetic sedation all day, every day in purpose-built, state of the art, treatment rooms.

Dr Anna has more than 30 years of experience treating three generations of the Ballarat community.

What treatments can be done?

Most dental treatments can be done under General Anaesthetic. This includes:

  • Fillings
  • Root Canal treatment
  • Extractions (including Wisdom teeth)
  • Implants
  • Gum treatment
  • All children’s dentistry

What treatments cannot be done?

Although Sleep Dentistry is very safe, we want to limit the number of times you have to go under General Anaesthetic as well as the duration that you are under General Anaesthetic. As such, we do not complete the following treatments in Sleep Dentistry:

  • Dental teeth whitening
  • Braces or Invisalign
  • Temporary patch-work

What happens afterwards?

After your treatment, our team will go through all instructions with you to ensure you know exactly what to expect for the days ahead. We will also organise any follow up appointments that me be required so we can ensure you are able to maintain your teeth!
